Science Aboard Honu
Honu submersibles create an opportunity to study the
deep ocean like never before.
Scientific Research Platform
Despite harboring 95% of the biomass in the ocean and being the site of the largest daily migration on Earth, we know very little about the Mesopelagic Zone. That is because it is so difficult to access these depths… until now.
Our Honu submersibles will allow researchers to spend up to eight hours at a time exploring this treasure trove of scientific discoveries waiting to be made. The submersibles are outfitted with cutting-edge tools to allow researchers to map deep reefs, collect samples, measure a whole variety of oceanographic parameters, and capture high-resolution photographs, video, and acoustic recordings.
We are building a research community around the Honu platform with the goal of bringing the wonders of the Mesopelagic Zone to the world, ultimately making a case for its protection. We are interested in your participation!
